James Walker

The Groom

A Leeds lad through and through. Software engineer by day, terrible cook by night. Proposed during a Lake District sunrise and still can't quite believe she said yes.

Sophie Pearson

The Bride

Originally from York, now Chapel Allerton's biggest houseplant enthusiast. Primary school teacher who somehow keeps 30 six-year-olds in line but can't keep James off the biscuits.

Our Story

From a spilled coffee to a Lake District sunrise

September 2019

The one with the terrible coffee

We met during freshers' week at the University of Leeds. James spilled lukewarm coffee all over Sophie's notes in the library. It was mortifying. He offered to buy her a replacement — she said only if it was from a proper cafe, not the vending machine. That replacement coffee lasted three hours.

November 2019

The first real date

James finally worked up the courage to ask Sophie for dinner. They went to a tiny Italian place on Call Lane. The plan was a quick meal, but they closed the restaurant — sat talking until the staff started stacking chairs around them. Six hours felt like twenty minutes.

March 2020

Lockdown brought us closer

Three months into dating and the world shut down. Most new couples would have crumbled. Instead, they spent lockdown cooking elaborate meals in James's tiny student kitchen, watching every Studio Ghibli film twice, and realising this was something worth holding onto.

July 2022

Moving in together

After graduating, they found a little flat in Chapel Allerton. Sophie's collection of houseplants took over every windowsill within a week. James built the IKEA furniture. Badly. They wouldn't have it any other way.

October 2025

The Lake District sunrise

James planned a weekend in Ambleside. On a misty Saturday morning, he led Sophie up to Loughrigg Fell for sunrise. As the light broke over Windermere and painted the valley gold, he got down on one knee. She said yes before he finished the question. They both cried. Then they went for a full English.

FAQ

Due to venue capacity, we can only accommodate those named on the invitation. If you've been given a plus one, it will be noted on your invite. If you're unsure, please get in touch and we'll be happy to clarify.

Smart formal. Think suits and elegant dresses. We'd love you to feel your best — just avoid white (that's Sophie's job!). The evening reception will be more relaxed, so bring your dancing shoes.

Yes! Rudding Park has a large free car park for guests. If you're planning to enjoy the bar (and we hope you are), we'd recommend booking a taxi or arranging accommodation nearby.

We'd love an unplugged ceremony — please put phones and cameras away during the service so our photographer can capture the moment without screens in the background. After the ceremony, snap away! We'd love to see your photos — tag us with #JamesAndSophie2026.

The ceremony begins at 1pm, so we'd suggest arriving by 12:30 to get settled. If you're staying at the hotel, even better — you'll have plenty of time.

We love your little ones, but we've decided to make this an adults-only celebration so everyone can relax and enjoy the evening. We hope you understand, and we hope this gives you a great excuse for a night off!
